No one should be surprised that Killing Eve star Jodie Comer has just received yet another BAFTA best actress nomination. From the first moment that Killing Eve aired to rave reviews and enthralled audiences around the world, Jodie Comer knew that her life was about to change. Her portrayal of Villanelle, the diabolical assassin character who regularly shocks and awes us on Killing Eve, has earned her the kind of recognition that very few actors ever come to enjoy.
Having already won a coveted Best Actress Emmy last September to go along with the BAFTA she won last year, Comer is riding the kind a massive wave of popularity and worldwide recognition. Now she’s about to take her career to the next level by co-staring with Ryan Reynolds in FREE GUY, a thriller set for release this summer in most of Europe as cinemas reopen with the easing of the coronavirus lockdown.
In the meantime, TV viewers have once again found themselves mesmerised with the continuing journey of Villanelle in Season 3 of Killing Eve. There has been no shortage of murder and mayhem over the last few months, and Comer herself has once again had to invest herself in her character’s twisted psychology and aberrant behaviour.
“This season shows a very vulnerable side to Villanelle, which is unlike anything we’ve seen from her before,” Comer says. “She is coming to the realization that she isn’t as invincible as she thinks she is, or at least isn’t getting true happiness from the things she once thought [would work].”
Next up for Comer fans is Free Guy, in which she plays a dual role as a gamer and as the avatar “Molotov Girl” who is a player inside a video game who is thrown into the mix with Ryan Reynolds’ character, a bank teller who discovers that he is a player inside a video game which is about to be retired.
While ensconced with her family in London during the lockdown, Comer has also revealed that she is “very much” in love although she has not disclosed the identity of her new beau. She admitted being grateful to be in a relationship: “Love’s the best. I’d been single for a while and just kind of going with the flow and doing my thing…[But] when you’re relaxed and letting the universe do what it’s doing, things kind of fall into place. Which is very much what happened. Which is great”…
